Backstory/Prelude draft

Long ago, in an impossibly distant galaxy/universe/whatever… There was a race of celestial beings called the Ilkari. Towering and golden eyed - their power and dominance was achieved through masterful control of magic. First they subjugated their world, and then the surrounding planets and galaxies. Always seeking more power - they eventually created a horrifying system to consume the arcane energy of “lesser” beings. The Ilkari would plant life into barren worlds and return across ages to taste what had grown - drawing off the magical energy like wine from a cask. When a world grew too powerful, too volatile - it would be opened fully, and drunk to the last drop. Countless worlds across the ages... countless last drops. Gil (Full name “Gilathmenos”?) was just another of one such world. Its inhabitants - Gods and Men and Demon alike - blissfully unaware that their increasing arcane power had brought them to the brink of destruction by their own creators. But something happened - Gil somehow broke free from its creator’s grasp. Millions of years have passed. Gil - a rogue planet hurdling through the darkness - kept alive by the latent energy produced by unknown phenomena (Orbiting ring system designed by the ilkari to function as a “Sun” source? “Engine” at the planet’s core?). The Ikari have long since been forgotten. Now - its inhabitants believe that their celestial architect - “The Dreamer”, they call it - had created the world and then abandoned it to ruin. Over the centuries, the divine order itself fell into chaos, and their influence fractured among races and regions. No known record remains of Gil’s origins. Not a spoken word or page remembers the truth - not in the grandest libraries nor the deepest, darkest ancient temples. But the Ilkari still remember. To them, Gil is like a finely aged wine ready to be sipped… if and when they discover its whereabouts…..
